RUNO'S SUSTAINABILITY PHILOSOPHY

At the heart of our sustainability philosophy lies the preservation of the old, giving new life to materials, maintaining traditions and history, and supporting local communities.

In our work, we want to highlight the importance of responsible and sustainable development. We are committed to growing the sustainability awareness and environmental consciousness of both our staff and our guests.

Our hotel is certified with Green Key and Sustainable Travel Finland, and we carry out long-term work across various areas of sustainability. Green Key is an international sustainability certification for the tourism industry, based on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, and Sustainable Travel Finland is a sustainability certification granted by Visit Finland.

RUNO Hotel Porvoo aims to offer its guests an experience where sustainable development encompasses all of our services and is a natural part of daily work. We are committed to preventing and reducing the environmental impact of our work, and we actively promote sustainable development by continuously improving our practices and setting new goals each year. Our workplace is safe, and risk and crisis management are integral parts of our work. We continuously train our staff and communicate our sustainability actions to both employees and guests to increase environmental awareness and commitment.

We are a member of We Speak Gay and are committed to working towards equal treatment and non-discrimination. We are dedicated to equal rights and treatment for all people, and we actively work against corruption and any form of commercial, sexual, or other exploitation of children, teenagers, women, minorities, or other vulnerable groups, as well as all forms of harassment. We also work in support of social sustainability in our region, for the benefit of both our staff and our guests.

Our greatest direct environmental impact comes from the consumption of resources such as energy and water. We actively strive to reduce our energy and water consumption, minimise waste generation, and improve waste sorting. As a newly renovated hotel, we use energy-efficient and intelligent building technology solutions, and in our hotel services we use environmentally friendly products and resource-efficient technology. We regularly measure and monitor our environmental performance, including tracking water, electricity, and energy consumption as well as the amount of waste generated.

Our procurement also has a significant indirect environmental impact, particularly regarding food and chemicals. Therefore, we are committed to using as many organic, eco-labelled, and seasonal products and foods as possible, and to avoiding meat, fish, or seafood products from endangered or protected stocks or species. We minimise food waste, use disposable tableware only in exceptional cases, and all cleaning and washing agents as well as paper products in use are eco-labelled.

Compliance with laws, regulations, and other requirements is our minimum standard, and we are committed to going beyond current laws and regulations related to sustainable development.

RUNO Hotel Porvoo aims to be at the forefront of creating a sustainable tourism industry and to inspire other operators, guests, and staff to take part in sustainable development efforts.
