Finland’s First & Only MICHELIN Key: RUNO Hotel Porvoo

We are thrilled to announce that RUNO Hotel Porvoo has been awarded Finland’s first and only MICHELIN Key – a prestigious international recognition that arrived in the Nordics for the very first time in 2025.
“This honor affirms our vision to create Finland’s most celebrated hotel experience,” says Erkka Hirvonen, Founder and CEO. “Being the first and only hotel in Finland to receive the MICHELIN Key shows just how unique our approach is. I’m proud of our team and what we’ve achieved in just four years. At RUNO, we show that hotels can be as sensorial and unforgettable as MICHELIN-starred restaurants.”
A Dream Brought to Life
RUNO Hotel Porvoo is more than a hotel – it’s a dream decades in the making. It all began with Rutumin Manor, inherited by Erkka’s family in 1991. Restoring the manor sparked a passion for cultural heritage and immersive hospitality, turning it into a place where guests could step back into the 1800s through costumes, stories, and atmosphere.
Erkka’s journey led him to international hospitality, including luxury hotels in Dubai. In 2016, an opportunity in Porvoo inspired the creation of RUNO, named as a tribute to Finnish culture, the Kalevala, and national poet J.L. Runeberg.
Despite the pandemic, construction began in 2020 and the hotel opened in 2021, blending global inspiration with a unique Finnish identity: warm, bold, and sensorial. Every detail follows Erkka’s 4S method:
- Sight – harmony and beauty in every corner
- Sound – rhythms and sounds that shape your experience
- Smell – scents that awaken your senses
- Sensation – textures and materials that evoke feeling
At RUNO, you don’t just stay – you experience, you feel, and you remember.
